Manual Scheduling with Drag-and-Drop

Take control of your schedule by manually moving tasks and events with simple drag-and-drop actions.

Overview

Whilst AI scheduling is powerful, sometimes you know better! Chronos Calendar lets you manually override AI suggestions by simply dragging tasks to where you want them.

Best of Both Worlds:Use AI scheduling for most tasks, then manually adjust specific items when needed. Your manual changes won't be overridden unless you edit the task's properties.

Dragging Tasks to Reschedule

How to Drag and Drop

  1. Click and hold on a task or event in your calendar

The task will become semi-transparent and your cursor will change to a grab icon

  2. Drag the task to the new time slot

Time slots will highlight in blue as you hover over them

  3. Release the mouse to drop the task

The task will snap to 15-minute increments for clean scheduling

  4. Task updated!

Your task is now scheduled at the new time

Visual Feedback During Drag

  • The task becomes semi-transparent whilst dragging
  • Target time slots highlight in blue when you hover over them
  • Cursor changes to a "grabbing" hand icon
  • Other tasks remain visible so you can avoid conflicts

Resizing Task Duration

Need more or less time for a task? You can resize tasks directly in the calendar.

How to Resize

  1. Hover over the bottom edge of the task

The cursor will change to a resize icon

  2. Click and drag the edge up or down

Drag down to increase duration, up to decrease

  3. Release when you reach the desired duration

The task will snap to 15-minute intervals

Note: Resizing a task updates its duration field. This will trigger adaptive rescheduling for other tasks if they need to shift around the new duration.

Important Behaviours

Manual Changes are Preserved

When you manually drag a task to a new time, that time is preserved. The AI won't automatically reschedule it unless you edit its properties (priority, duration, etc.).

Works with Tasks and Events

Both flexible tasks and fixed events support drag-and-drop. You have full control over your entire schedule.

15-Minute Snap Intervals

Tasks automatically snap to 15-minute increments (e.g., 9:00, 9:15, 9:30) for clean, organised scheduling. You can't schedule tasks at odd times like 9:07.

Auto-Revert on Failure

If the server update fails for any reason, the drag action automatically reverts and your task returns to its original position.

No Auto-Rescheduling After Manual Drag

Manual drag-and-drop does NOT trigger adaptive rescheduling of other tasks. This prevents the system from fighting your manual choices. Other tasks remain where they are.

Common Use Cases

Here are some situations where manual scheduling is especially useful:

Override AI Scheduling

The AI scheduled a task for tomorrow morning, but you'd prefer to do it this afternoon. Simply drag it to your preferred time.

Create Time Blocks

Group related tasks together by dragging them to consecutive time slots. Great for focused work sessions or themed days.

Quick Adjustments for Overruns

A meeting ran late and pushed your schedule back. Quickly drag subsequent tasks to accommodate the change.

Work in Unavailable Time Slots

Need to work outside your normal hours? You can manually drag tasks to any time slot, even those marked as unavailable. This is useful for exceptions.

Balance Your Workload

Spread tasks more evenly across the week by moving some from busy days to lighter days.

Tips for Effective Manual Scheduling

  • Use AI scheduling as a baseline

Let AI create the initial schedule, then make manual adjustments for personal preferences

  • Check for conflicts

Make sure you're not creating overlaps when manually scheduling tasks

  • Consider energy levels

Schedule demanding tasks when you're most alert and creative work when you're in the right mindset

  • Leave breathing room

Don't pack your schedule too tightly - leave gaps for breaks and unexpected issues

  • Review weekly

Take a few minutes each week to review and adjust your upcoming schedule

Troubleshooting

Task Won't Drag?

  • Ensure you're clicking on the task body, not the checkbox
  • Check if the task is locked (some recurring tasks may have restrictions)
  • Try refreshing the page if the calendar is unresponsive

Task Snapped Back After Dropping?

This means the server update failed. Check your internet connection and try again. The task returns to its original position to prevent data loss.

Can't Resize Task?

Make sure you're hovering over the very bottom edge of the task. The resize handle is a thin area at the bottom. Also ensure the task type supports resizing.
