Creating your account

You can sign up on the web or in the iPhone and Android app. Either way you start a 14-day free trial with no credit card needed.

  • On the web: fill in your first and last name (optional), email and password, type the password again in Confirm Password, then choose Create account. A short setup walks you through your availability and first tasks.
  • In the app: tap Create account on the sign-up screen. The app sets your timezone from your phone and signs you straight in.
  • Check your timezone: if you signed up on the web, open Settings › Account and make sure Timezone is right. Chronos schedules your day in it.
  • Verify your email:we send a verification link when you sign up, and it works for 24 hours. If it's expired or missing, open Settings › Account and choose Resend verification email (once a minute at most).

Signing in and out

  • You sign in with your email and password, on the web and in the app.
  • You stay signed in for 7 days on each browser or phone. After that, Chronos asks you to sign in again.
  • After 5 wrong passwords in a row, your account is locked for 15 minutes. Wait, then try again, or reset your password.
  • To sign out on the web, choose Sign out at the bottom of the sidebar. In the app, tap Log out in Settings or in the menu. Logging out of the app also stops notifications to that phone.
  • Signing out on one device doesn't sign you out anywhere else.

Choosing a password

The same rule applies whenever you set a password: signing up, resetting it, or changing it. Passwords you already have keep working.

  • 8 to 64 characters. Longer is stronger: 15 or more is best, and a few random words work well.
  • No character rules. You don't need capitals, numbers or symbols. Spaces, accented letters and emoji are all fine.
  • Not a common password. We check it against a list of over 46,000 of the most common passwords, ignoring capitals.
  • Not about you or us.It can't contain “Chronos”, your email address, or the part of your email before the @ (when that part is 4 characters or longer).

If your password is refused

MessageWhat to do
“Use at least 8 characters. 15 or more is best.”Make it longer.
“Use 64 characters or fewer.”Make it shorter.
“That's too long once emoji and accented letters are counted. Try a shorter one.”Emoji and accented letters take more room behind the scenes. Use fewer of them, or a shorter password.
“That password is too common. Choose one that's harder to guess.”Pick something less predictable, such as a few unrelated words.
“Don't use "Chronos" or your email in your password.”Take out “Chronos” and any part of your email address.

Forgotten or changing your password

Reset a forgotten password

  1. On the sign-in page, choose Forgot password? In the app, tap Forgot your password?, which opens the same page in your browser.
  2. Enter your email and choose Send reset link.
  3. Open the link in the email within 1 hour, enter your new password twice and choose Reset password. Then sign in with it on the web and in the app.

Each link works once, and asking for a new one cancels the earlier links. If the page says Link expired, choose Request new link.

Change your password

On the web, open Settings › Account. Under Password, enter your Current Password, your New Password and Confirm New Password, then choose Change password. In the app, go to Settings › More settings on the web to reach the same page.

Changing or resetting your password doesn't sign out devices that are already signed in. To be sure, sign out on each of them.

Your profile and timezone

  • On the web: open Settings › Account. Under Profile Information you can change your first and last name, email, public handle (the part of your booking links after /book/) and timezone. Changes save by themselves.
  • In the app: open Settings, change your name or Timezone under Profile, then tap Save changes.
  • Chronos schedules your tasks and counts your streaks in your timezone, so update it when you move.

Deleting your account

Deleting removes your account and everything in it, including tasks, events, projects, docs, lists, habits and journal, on the web and in the app. You're signed out and your subscription is cancelled straight away, so you won't be charged again (see Plans & Billing).

  1. On the web, open Settings › Account and scroll to Delete account. In the app, open Settings and tap Delete account under Log out.
  2. Enter Your password and choose Delete my account.
  3. Confirm with Delete account.

If it won't delete

  • You own a team with other people in it. Deleting the owner would delete the team for everyone. Remove the other members on the Teams page first, then try again. See Teams.
  • We couldn't cancel your subscription.Your account stays as it is so you aren't billed for an account that no longer exists. Try again in a moment.
  • Your account has no password. Set one with Forgot password? on the sign-in page, then try again.
  • Wrong password. Check it and try again. A wrong password here never signs you out.
  • Chronos staff (super admin) accounts can't be deleted this way.

Restoring a deleted account

When you delete your own account, we keep an encrypted copy for 30 days in case you change your mind.

  1. Sign up again with the same email, on the web or in the app, and choose a new password.
  2. Chronos says Welcome back. Choose Restore my account or Start fresh.
  3. We email you a link to prove the address is yours. Open it within 24 hours and choose Confirm.
  • Restore brings everything back as you left it, and signs you in on the browser where you confirmed. Use the new password you just chose from now on, including in the app. If someone else took your booking handle in the meantime, pick a new one in Settings › Account.
  • Start fresh deletes the old account for good and signs you in to a new, empty one.
  • Asking again sends a new link and cancels the earlier one. If a link has expired, sign up again with the same email to get another.

After 30 days the copy is deleted for good and can't be recovered. You can still sign up with the same email, but you'll start with a new account.

Deleted by Chronos support? If we delete an account for you, it's removed straight away and permanently. There's no 30-day copy, so it can't be restored.
